# Farm Crop History

> See what has been planted on a farm's fields over the last five years.

The **Crop History** tab charts what has grown on a farm's fields over the last five years, one chart per year, newest first. Each chart breaks the year's acreage down by crop across the farm's gross acres.

Open the tab from the farm page for the whole farm, or from an individual field to see that field's history on its own.

## Reading the charts

Each year shows the crops detected on the farm and how many acres each covered. Years with no detected crops are skipped rather than shown empty.

Crop history is also surfaced elsewhere in CamoAg:

* On a parcel, under **Cropland Data Layer Information** — see [Parcels](/docs/parcels/overview).
* On an operation, in the **Crops** section — see [Operations](/docs/operations/overview).

## Data source

Crop history is provided using the NASS Cropland Data Layer (CDL), a raster, geo-referenced, crop-specific land cover map for the continental United States. It is created annually from moderate resolution satellite imagery and extensive agricultural ground truth.

Because the CDL is derived from satellite imagery rather than reported records, treat it as a strong indicator of what was planted rather than a verified planting record.

If no crop data exists for the farm's location, the tab says so rather than showing empty charts.
