Overview
Company map layers are custom layers of points or boundaries that are private to your organization. Once created, they appear on the map for everyone in your account under Company Layers, grouped by the category you assign. There are two shape types: Boundary layers — collections of areas or polygons, such as sales territories, service areas, or elevator draw regions. Point layers — collections of locations, such as retailers, facilities, grain elevators, or applicator sites. There are two ways to build a layer: import an existing GIS file, or create the layer manually and add features to it one at a time.Creating and editing company map layers requires the Create/Edit Company Map Layers permission (Map Layers feature area, CamoAg Enterprise). Without it, users can still view and toggle company layers on the map, but the New Company Layer button and all editing options are hidden. See Access Control (RBAC) for how to add a permission to a role.
Where to start
1
Open the Company Layers panel
From the map, expand Company Layers in the left navigation menu.
2
Click New Company Layer
Choose Boundary layer, Point layer, or Import shapefile from the dropdown.
Importing a map file
Importing is the fastest path when you already have your geography in a GIS file. CamoAg reads the file, verifies it, and creates a layer with one feature per shape in the file.Accepted formats are
.zip (a zipped shapefile), .geojson, and .kml, up to 20 MB. Files must contain less than 25k features. To upload a larger file or a different format, contact support.1
Open the import modal
Click New Company Layer > Import shapefile. The Import GIS File modal opens.
2
Select your file
Drag and drop your file onto the upload area, or click to browse. The file uploads and is verified automatically — watch for File is verified! before continuing. If verification fails, the specific error is shown beneath the file name so you can correct the file and try again.
3
Name the layer
The Layer Name is pre-filled from the file name. Edit it to whatever you want users to see on the map.
4
Select a Title Property
After verification, CamoAg lists the attribute fields found in your file with an example value from the first record. Pick the field that should be used as each feature’s title on the map — for example,
TERRITORY_NAME or SITE_ID.5
Add a source URL (optional)
Click Enter Source URL to record where the data came from. This is useful for layers sourced from a public agency dataset that you may need to refresh later.
6
Upload
Click Upload. Processing runs in the background and can take several minutes for large files — you’ll be notified when the layer is ready.
Creating a layer manually
Manual creation is a two-part process: first you define the layer itself, then you add features to it.Step 1: Define the layer
1
Choose the layer type
Click New Company Layer and select Boundary layer or Point layer. This cannot be changed after the layer is created.
2
Enter a Layer Name
This is the name users will see in the Company Layers list. Required.
3
Choose a Layer Category
Categories group related layers together in the navigation menu. Select an existing category from the dropdown, or click Create to type a new one. Layers default to the Other category.
4
Pick a Default Display Color
Choose the color used to draw this layer on the map. Boundary layers can be left with no color (an outline only) by clearing the selection; point layers default to gray.
5
Add Feature Attributes
Attributes are the custom fields available on every feature in the layer — for example,
Account Owner, Acres, or Contract End Date. Click Add attribute for each one and give it a label. Use the arrows to reorder attributes; the order here is the order users see when viewing a feature.6
Save
Click Save. The layer is created and you’re taken to its details page, ready to add features.
Step 2: Add features to the layer
From the layer’s details page, click Add feature to layer.- Point layers
- Boundary layers
A new point is dropped at the center of your current map view. In the form, set the Title, fill in any feature attributes, and optionally add an address. Latitude and longitude are shown read-only — reposition the point by dragging it on the map. Click Save.
Editing a layer
Open the layer from Company Layers and use the menu in the layer header:Existing feature attributes can’t be deleted once features are using them — use the eye icon to hide an attribute instead. New attributes you’ve added but not yet saved can be removed with the trash icon.
